U-A-R-K #002

U-A-R-K(英語: Unravel and Re-knit, 日本語: ユーエーアールケー / 解いて編んで)は, 既存のセーターを解き, 再び編み直す実験的なワークショップです.

U-A-R-K (Unravel and Re-knit, read as 'ju-ə-ɑr-keɪ' / 'Hodoite-ande' in Japanese) is an experimental workshop that takes apart existing sweaters and knits them again. Through this cyclical act—an experiment in autonomous sourcing—we explore new relations between clothing production and its users, from outside the vast supply network.

Now, as "circularity" is being systematized from the side of institutions and technology, rather than asserting any sense of "rightness," we value placing ourselves alongside users—within a practice that holds judgment and hesitation.

〈#002 — Knitted here, Measured here, Sold here〉
Date: February 20–24, 2025
Location: Esmeralda Serviced Department

This workshop consists of two parts. The first three days featured an open production session using domestic knitting machines set up at the venue, where attendees could participate. During this time, we provided a lecture on creating patterns by blending upcycled yarn unraveled from old sweaters (found in #001) with new yarn. The final two days involved measuring and selling the completed works, which were long and connected, at the preferred length of the attendees, and then tailoring them on the spot into scarves or hand warmers.
